Wedding Preparation Timeline

You’re getting married! Preparing for your wedding day can be the most exciting and the most stressful time of your life. On your big day your hair is going to be an important Part of how you look and feel – and that goes for men as well as women!

To help you out we’ve put together a selection of wedding preparation insights to help you ensure you look great and all your energies can go into enjoying the day. If there is one thing we would suggest when it comes to how you want to look on your big day, it is to plan and practice

Six months before

If you are thinking of changing your hairstyle for the day, then do discuss this with your stylist as soon as possible, preferably 5-6 months in advance, so you can both prepare.

It is always best to have a set plan of how you want your hair and make-up to look on the big day. Our advice is never to make drastic changes and certainly not last minute. Remember, your partner is marrying you as you are, and may be surprised to find someone who looks very different coming down the aisle.

Skin and hair complement each other but a lot of brides leave skin care to the last minute. Our advice is to book regular monthly facials from six months out to ensure your skin is fresh and glowing. You certainly don’t want a breakout appearing the night before the wedding and if you do get a spot on the day best advice is to leave well alone – that will make it easier for your make-up artist to cover it up.

3-4 months before

Whether you’re using your regular hairdresser or if that’s not possible, someone brought in for the day, talk to your stylist and your make-up artist for your wedding day, and book in trials so they can get to know you and your hair/skin and you can feel more comfortable everything will go well on the day.

Look at Pinterest and Instagram which are full of ideas and inspiration, so you can let them know what you would like. But do remember, not all styles are suitable for all hair types, so get a few ideas and run it by your hairdresser to get his/her input.

If you fancy a sun kissed glow to complement your wedding dress, then book a trial spray tan in for the next few weeks. Our favourite in the salon is SiennaX. They do a range of different strength tan solutions, designed to suit every skin type, even the fairest of complexions.

1-2 months before

Now is the time to have a trial run of your hair and make-up. Wear clothes that are a similar colour to your wedding dress as this will give you an idea of how the light will affect the overall look.

If you’re wearing a veil, hair vein, clips, or clip in extensions don’t forget to take them along to your trial appointment!

If you are doing your own make up make sure you have all the products you need and start practising now.

A tip for whiter teeth on your wedding day is to cut down on tea, coffee and red

wine now. Start using a whitening toothpaste or better still, book in with your dentist for a

professional teeth whitening treatment. But bear in mind this process can take a while to take effect so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time.

2 Weeks before

Lets’ talk about hair. You should have your final haircut and colour appointment this week.

Remember, no drastic changes! We highly recommend a light trim (dusting if hair is going up).

Now is the time to exfoliate and moisturise, paying close attention to your hands, feet and elbows.

Also, make sure you drink plenty of water, as this keeps the skin hydrated and fresh looking.

And make sure you have notes in your diary to confirm all your wedding day appointments, so you are sure everything is in place.

1 week before

Avoid all those naughty snacks! Salty foods and alcohol can dehydrate your

skin. Carrot sticks and cucumber, nuts and seeds are yummy healthy snacking alternatives.

You should have all your waxing done this week ready for the wedding night and honeymoon!

Men should be making their pre-wedding trip to the barbers for a smarten up trim.

Finally, ladies why not treat yourself to a massage with your last pre-wedding facial. Absolute bliss!

1 day before

Exciting times.......

Water, water, water – drink plenty for beautiful skin!

Pack your essential beauty kit and chuck in a mini sewing kit. (you can never

be too organised)

Head to your manicure and pedicure appointment!

In the evening have a nice glass of wine, and long soak in the bath. RELAX!

Wedding day!!

You made it! After months of preparation the day has arrived to get MARRIED!

There’s lots to do today which is why you’ve planned and practiced in advance so everything runs smoothly.

Start the day well with a light bite to eat. We know you will be nervous but the wedding breakfast will be a while away. And don’t forget to keep hydrated too.

When you’re preparing in the morning make sure you wear a top that you can take off easily, so you don’t ruin your beautiful wedding hair. We advise a shirt to avoid pulling anything over your head.

This is the time where your stylist can work their magic, and help keep you calm too.

If your wedding party is having their hair done too, why not gather together and enjoy on another’s’ company. It can help ease any nerves and make the day more enjoyable by starting it by having a laugh with friends.

When you step through the door of your wedding venue your stylist, your make-up artist and everyone else will want you to be feeling like a million dollars.

Above all, enjoy yourself – it’s your day!
